Caucuses started at 8 p.m., Eastern time.
Most likely only four tickets out of Iowa.
Of the seven candidates mounting competitive efforts in Iowa, history and mathematics point to only four emerging from the caucuses with a plausible case to be the Democratic nominee. Here’s how it could shake out.
Multiple candidates might declare victory.
The Iowa caucuses could be messy because, for the first time, there will be four sets of results. We’ve mocked up what a perfect storm might look like.
Republicans are caucusing, too.
If it is hard to be a Democratic candidate in the crowded 2020 field, it may be even harder to be a Republican trying to present a legitimate alternative to President Trump. Joe Walsh, a Tea Party hero, is trying.
Keep up with our Election 2020 coverage.
